In a newsstory done yesterday in the Advocate by Debra Lemoine, it is being asked that the Citizens of Hammond who were accessed and paid property taxes, and should not have done so to the Tangipahoa Parish School System, according to this story, should file a claim with the Tangipahoa Parish Assessor's Office. The story claims no one has as of yet filed a claim.
While Act 819 states in part, "any taxes collected erroneously are to be repaid to those taxpayers for the past three years following the discovery of the error" should file the claim. While the Tangipahoa Parish School System is hackling over whether or not these monies should be refunded to the citizens, they should simply do what the law requires them to do, and pay the money to those citizens who are adversely affected.
The email sent from the school system to their Bonding Attorney, and was shared with the DOJ is found under the Blog Section of this Website, under the blog "Woodbridge, Et Al."
