Friday, August 5, 2011 proved to be successful for the Louisiana Black Caucus and Louisiana Municipal Black Caucus Association's Annual Convention held in Shreveport, LA.  Elected Officials from across Louisiana, both black and white, came together for one common cause, and as the theme for this successful event appropriately stated that "Coming Together as ONE"  is advantageous for all in this state, as well as across this country.  Certainly, it was abundantly clear this is what happened.  Togetherness echoed throughout the room, as all realized this is what needs to happen in this state and country if we are to save generations of individuals.  Can we do this?  "Yes We Can" was the echo throughout the room.

I take this opportunity to thank this organization for extending an invitation for me to speak, and for the standing ovation given upon completion of my speech.  I am truly humbled.  I thank Mrs. Lisa Frederick, my cose friend, whom I feel is as close as a blood sister to me in taking time from her busy schedule in driving me to Shreveport Friday.  I am grateful.

To all of the elected officials, thank you for coming and for listening to what was said.  It means much, and your support is essential for all citizens in Louisiana, and it is appreciated.

President Vernon Martin is strong in his leadership, and I especially thank him for his help on issues this NAACP Organization asked his assistance in.  President Martin, your assistance means much.

As we begin a new era in "Coming Together as ONE," let us remember, "Together We Stand, But Divided, We Fall!!!"  Something we as citizens in the greatest country in this world can ill-afford to see happen.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this coming together.
